CBT-I Therapy for Sleep & Insomnia

A compassionate, trauma-informed approach to better sleep

Sleep struggles can feel deeply isolating.

When you’re exhausted night after night, it can begin to affect everything — your energy, emotions, concentration, relationships, sense of safety, and ability to cope with everyday life.

For many people, sleep becomes more than just a physical issue. Bedtime can start to feel stressful, frustrating, or even emotionally activating. You may find yourself lying awake with racing thoughts, feeling “on alert,” anticipating another difficult night, or becoming anxious about not sleeping.

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone — and your experience makes sense.

What is CBT-I?

CBT-I (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia) is an evidence-based approach that helps improve sleep by addressing the patterns, stress responses, behaviors, and thought cycles that contribute to insomnia.

In a trauma-informed CBT-I approach, we recognize that sleep difficulties are not simply about “bad habits” or “not trying hard enough.” Often, the nervous system has learned to stay alert, vigilant, or activated due to stress, overwhelm, anxiety, burnout, difficult life experiences, or unresolved trauma.

The goal is not to force sleep.

The goal is to help your mind and body gradually feel safer, calmer, and more supported in rest.

Sleeping Woman Resting

CBT-I may help if you:

  • Have difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep

  • Wake feeling tense, anxious, or unrested

  • Experience racing thoughts at night

  • Feel exhausted but unable to fully relax

  • Dread bedtime or feel pressure around sleep

  • Feel “wired but tired”

  • Have sleep difficulties connected to anxiety, stress, trauma, grief, or burnout

  • Have tried to “fix” your sleep but continue feeling stuck

Many people begin to develop a difficult relationship with sleep itself — where bedtime becomes associated with frustration, fear, pressure, or hypervigilance. CBT-I works gently to interrupt those cycles and create new patterns of safety and regulation.

What our work together may look like

Therapy is collaborative, supportive, and tailored to your individual needs and nervous system.

Together, we may explore:

  • How stress, trauma, and nervous system activation affect sleep

  • Gentle changes to sleep patterns and routines

  • Reducing nighttime anxiety, hyperarousal, and overthinking

  • Developing grounding and calming strategies

  • Creating a greater sense of safety at bedtime

  • Building self-compassion around sleep struggles

  • Restoring trust in your body’s ability to rest

This approach is never about blame, shame, or rigid perfection. We move at a pace that feels supportive and manageable for you.

Healing sleep often begins with feeling safe enough to rest

Rest is not something we can force.

For many people, healing sleep begins with understanding the nervous system, reducing pressure and fear around sleep, and creating conditions where the body no longer feels it has to stay on guard.

With compassionate support and evidence-based tools, it is possible to improve sleep, reconnect with your body, and move toward more restorative rest and greater overall well-being.
